29 November – 1 December 2012: Workshop “German and French Perceptions of the Yugoslav Wars”
What are the similarities and differences between German and French perceptions, mutual reactions and social exchange processes of the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s? Have the Yugoslav Wars changed the perceptions of social conflicts? These are the main questions that this workshop will seek to address. The workshop is organized by the Chair of South-East European History in cooperation with the Centre Marc Bloch and the Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft (Details) (Programme).
18 December 2012: Workshop “The Republic of Moldova: a Hesitant Transformation”
The Republic of Moldova will shortly begin its 20th year as an independent state. The celebrations that on this occasion will be organised in the main cities of this country will take place amid the background of an economic and political crisis. This workshop is organised in cooperation with the Centre Marc Bloch, the CEVIPOL-Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft. Seminar Series “Borders in Maps and Social Practices“– Winter Semester 2012/2013
This series of public lectures, followed by a discussion, is organized within the framework of the research project “Phantom Borders in East Central Europe”. Its main objective is to discuss the different ways in which defunct historical borders continue to be structured, with different levels of intensity, in the South-East and East Central European region (Programme).

In this seminar, new research themes and questions will be explored about the history and historical anthropology of South-East Europe. At the same time, selected theoretical texts that address methodological problems of our discipline will be discussed.

28 May – 5 June: Study Trip to the Central Balkans: The Making and Changing of a Border Region
This study trip will address contemporary and historical problems relating to the geographical space that now constitutes Bulgaria and Serbia. The trip will start in Sofia and will then head toward Dimitrovgrad, in the Bulgarian-Serbian border, before ending in Belgrade. Fifteen students, together with H. Grandits and N. Stefanov will embark on a practical research experience that will combine historical research with an anthropological approach. The subject of borders constitutes one the main focus of this study trip. (Programme details)

Attention: The colloquium is organized as a group of presentations that takes place once a month on Friday. The dates for the winter semester 2010/11 are: 29/10, 19/11, 17/12 and 28/01. It is organized in cooperation with Prof. Holm Sundhausen from the Freie University Berlin and takes place alternatively at the Humboldt and the Freie Universities.
