Bio

Heike Wieters has been Junior Professor of Historical European Studies at the Institute of History at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin since October 2019.

She studied Modern and Contemporary History and Philosophy at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the University of Potsdam and completed her doctorate in 2013 with a thesis on the internationalisation of the humanitarian NGO CARE, which was published in 2017 under the title "Showered with Kindness? The NGO CARE and Food aid from America" published by Manchester University Press. The book is now also available as a paperback edition https://manchesteruniversitypress.co.uk/9781526129727/

From 2013 to 2017, Heike Wieters led a junior research group together with Karim Fertikh in the Franco-German BMBF joint project ‘Saisir l'Europe - Europa als Herausforderung’. In the context of this project, the anthology ‘A Social Europe as a Challenge’ was published by Campus in 2018 https://www.campus.de/buecher-campus-verlag/wissenschaft/politikwissenschaft/ein_soziales_europa_als_herausforderung_leurope_sociale_en_question-14841.html

From 2018 to 2019, Heike Wieters worked as a research assistant and academic coordinator of the Erasmus Mundus Master's programme ‘GLOCAL - Global Markets - local opportunities’ at the Institute of Economic and Social History at the Georg August University of Göttingen.

Her research focuses on the contemporary history of European integration and historically based European governance research, on global welfare (state) history - in particular pension provision in Europe - and on the history of transnational relations and interactions between state and private actors in business and society.
