Ancient History at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

At the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Ancient History is defined as the study of Greek and Roman Antiquity through the mid-first millenium A.D. Focused on the geographical region surrounding the Mediterranean Sea and Near East, Greek and Roman Antiquity represents a rich cultural period that has greatly influenced the course of history.

Ancient History curriculum does more than just teach students chronology of „classical“ Greek and Roman Antiquity, it also allows for content differentiation in areas of theory and methodology. This approach allows students to successfully bridge the gap between the methodologically oriented Classical and Ancient Studies and the theory-based field of history.
