Profile:
The unit for the History of Western Europe and Transatlantic Relations is dedicated to the study of western European societies, European integration and 20th century US-American history. Unit curriculum examines individual regions and nations as well the history of interrelationships within the "Western World" and between other world regions. The analysis of historical issues is conducted from a variety of perspectives, drawing from areas of new Political History, Cultural History as well as Image Science. The current focus of our teaching and research efforts lie in: the study of the relationship between political violence and statehood, Cultural and Social history of the Cold War and
Post-Cold War era, history of the welfare state in the context of "Saisir l'Europe", the historical framework and reconception of Contemporary History, Scientific and Political History in the "Atomic Age" and the history, methodology and epistemology of the Digital Age.
