Profile

I am a social and economic historian interested in the interplay of ideas (broadly defined) and institutions in the modern world. My previous research includes German-Soviet business relations during the Weimar Republic, kinship in transnational entrepreneurial families and the role of religion in American capitalism. In my current project, I look at the role of Anabaptist religion in Mennonite, Amish and Hutterite economic development in industrial American between 1865 and 1980. Educated at Konstanz University, I joined Humboldt University’s Department of History in 2012. I teach courses for the BA and MA History, MA Global History and MA European History programs.
