How to apply

How can you apply for a place at the IfG ?

 

Applications (starting from the first or a more advanced semester of study) can only be made through the HU online portal:

Admission requirements specific to the following fields of study:

 

Bachelor of Arts (with/without teacher training)

Language requirements:

To be a successful history student, a knowledge of several foreign languages (i.e. two modern languages and Latin) is indispensible. This is, however, NOT a prerequisite for matriculation.

 

Master of Arts

Special admission requirements: language proficiency

 

 

Proof of B1-level proficiency in the English (or another) language must be provided in one of the following forms:

1.      High school transcripts: over at least 4 years. Proof of 3 years is sufficient; if it can be proven that English was one of the subjects examined as part of the university entrance qualification and was passed with a grade of at least 4 (= 5 points).

3.      International English Language Testing System (IELTS): min. 4.0 

4.      Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE): min. 45 

5.      Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL, www.ets.org/toefl/):
- Internet-based test: 57

6.      Goethe-Institut im Ausland: B1-Zertifikat

7.      Sprachschulen in Deutschland: B1-Zertifikat

 

Proof of B2-level proficiency in the English language must be provided in one of the following forms:

1.      High school transcripts: If it can be proven that English was the foreign language continued into the final two years leading up to the high school leaving examinations and passed with a grade of 4 (= 5 points)

2.      UNIcert® II-certificate: 3.0 

3.      International English Language Testing System (IELTS): min. 5.0 

4.      Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE): B-C 

5.      Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL, www.ets.org/toefl/):
- Internet-based test: 87
- Paper-based test: 560 

6.      DAAD language certificate: min. C in all areas

7.      Goethe-Institut im Ausland: B2-Zertifikat

8.      Sprachschulen in Deutschland: B2-Zertifikat

 

Proof of C1-level proficiency in the English language must be provided  in one of the following forms:

 

1.      High school transcripts: If it can be proven that English was the foreign language continued into the final two years leading up to the high school leaving examinations was passed with at least 11 points as an advanced subject or with an average of at least 13 points as a foundation subject

2.      UNIcert® II-certificate: 1.3 

3.      UNIcert® III-certificate: 3.0 

4.      International English Language Testing System (IELTS): min. 6.5 

5.      Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): B-C 

6.      Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE): A 

7.      Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL, www.ets.org/toefl/):
- Internet-based test: 100
- Paper-based test: 600 

8.      DAAD language certificate: average min. B, no results < C

9.      Goethe-Institut im Ausland: C1-Zertifikat

10.  Sprachschulen in Deutschland: C1-Zertifikat

 

Ein Nachweis über geforderte Englischkenntnisse auf Niveau C2 ist in einer der folgenden Varianten einzureichen:

 

1.      High school transcripts: If it can be proven that English was the foreign language continued into the final two years leading up to the high school leaving examinations and was passed with at least 11 points as an advanced subject or with an average of at least 13 points as a foundation subject 

2.      UNIcert® III-certificate: 1.3 

3.      UNIcert® IV-certificate: 3.0 

4.      International English Language Testing System (IELTS): min. 8.0 

5.      Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): A-C

6.      Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): A 

7.      Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL, www.ets.org/toefl/): 
- Internet-based test: 110
- Paper-based test: 627 

8.      DAAD language certificate: min. A in all areas

9.      University entrance qualification or credits and examinations amounting to at least 20 ECTS in countries where the official language is English

10.  Goethe-Institut im Ausland: C2-Zertifikat

11.  Sprachschulen in Deutschland: C2-Zertifikat
