Lehrveranstaltungen

Jan Hansen is an assistant professor (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) in the Department of History at Humboldt University of Berlin. His research focuses on the United States and Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries, with particular interests in the histories of infrastructure, the environment, and the American West. His previous work includes research into social movements, with a special emphasis on anti-nuclear protests during the Cold War. He is the author of Abschied vom Kalten Krieg? Die Sozialdemokraten und der Nachrüstungsstreit (1977–1987) [Farewell to the Cold War? The Social Democrats and the Dispute over the Deployment of Nuclear Weapons in Germany] (Berlin: de Gruyter Oldenbourg 2016).

During the academic year 2017-18, he was a visiting research fellow at the German Historical Institute in Washington, DC. In 2019, he was appointed Dibner Research Fellow in the History of Science and Technology, The Huntington, San Marino, CA. He also serves as a book review editor for H-Soz-Kult and is the spokesperson of the Arbeitskreis Historische Friedens- und Konfliktforschung [German Association for Historical Peace and Conflict Research].

He is currently working on a book project entitled “Urban Infrastructure and Everyday Life in Los Angeles, 1860-1940.”
