Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
The Department of History at HU Berlin is one of the largest and most diverse centres for historical studies and research in Germany. The department offers one of the most comprehensive selections of study programs in Germany. Academic courses span all historical periods, with particular emphasis placed on the European perspective. At the Department of History, Europe is studied as a heterogeneous, yet inextricably intertwined entity situated within a broader global framework. Since 2012 the HU coordinates the Joint Master of Arts European History, which is an interdisciplinary, comparative master's program offered by a consortium of ten universities situated in nine major European capitals.
Utrecht University (project leader)
Utrecht University, established in 1636, it is one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands. Today, it is a large and multifaceted knowledge centre that aims to provide teaching and research of international quality. The Department of History and Art History is the largest department in the Faculty of Humanities and has a strong focus on international teaching and research cooperation.
Universidad Autónoma de Madrid
The Autonomous University of Madrid (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid – UAM) is a public university established in 1968. Throughout its history, UAM has been one of Spain’s most prominent higher education institutions. The two History Departments (Early Modern History and Modern/Contemporary History) that participate in the project have a wide expertise. Of course, several of the most relevant experts in Spanish history are members of these departments. Moreover, there is a natural specialization in Latin American and Caribbean history, but also in Atlantic History and the history of the USA.
University of Sheffield
The University of Sheffield is home to world-leading research, excellent teaching and a vibrant international community. The Department of History is one of the largest, most active and successful centres for teaching and historical research in the UK. Approximately half of the more than 40 members of staff are experts in modern history specialising in European (including British and Irish) and global history. Its outstanding record of research has been consistently recognised by external bodies and it has been ranked among the UK’s top three History departments for the impact and quality of research in the Research Excellence Framework 2014.
Univerzita Karlova
Charles University (CUNI) in Prague is the largest and most prestigious university in the Czech Republic. Founded in 1348, it is also the oldest one in Central Europe. The Faculty of Arts at Charles University is currently one of the largest and most important research and educational institutions in the arts and humanities in Central Europe. History is taught and researched mainly at the three history departments – The Institute of Global History, Institute of Czech History and Institute Social and Economic History – which constitute a very important body of the Faculty (comprising some 50 staff members). Besides, some other departments offer history courses and participate in research in history (e.g. Centre of Ibero-American Studies).
Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem
Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) is a Hungarian public research university based in Budapest. Founded in 1635, ELTE is one of the largest and most prestigious public higher education institutions in Hungary. ELTE’s Faculty of Humanities is the university’s oldest faculty. On three academic levels (pre-university, Bachelor and Master level), students can choose from more than 30 degree programmes. Additionally, four Doctoral schools offer a total of 70+ PhD programmes. The Institute of History is one of the biggest institutions at the Faculty of Humanities, with 69 teachers, one BA-, eight MA- (within four interdisciplinary), and twelve PhD-programmes.

EUROCLIO – European Association of History Educators
Based in Den Haag, EUROCLIO – European Association of History Educators – supports the development of responsible and innovative history, heritage, and citizenship education by promoting critical thinking, mutual respect, peace, stability and democracy. EUROCLIO stimulates the transfer of reliable academic historical knowledge and innovative educational theory to the school and training levels, and to history and citizenship curricula, teaching tools and assessment procedures.
